To all you beautiful women:
I hope this email finds you warm and well. The W&R Retreat planners chose not to have our annual retreat in 2017 because so many of us attended the International Women’s Convocation at Asilomar in February. Instead, we had a “Meet and Greet” at the Convo and I was delighted to meet many more UU women who live in Northern California who might never have heard of us. Well, now you have!
Our retreat continues in 2018 (March 8-11) and we have reserved our place at Enchanted Hills Camp (website http://enchantedhillsretreat.com/). Visit their website to learn more about this special place in the Napa foothills. You’ll find comfortable accommodations, three square meals a day, workshops, affinity circles, book swap, clothes swap, and myriad ways to enjoy yourself, relax and rejuvenate in the company of wonderful women.
But for 2017 we want to get together for a few hours and enjoy each other’s company, a potluck lunch, and a stimulating workshop presentation by the inimitable Dr. Meg Bowman. Meg is a retired professor of Sociology and Women’s Studies at San Jose State University and has a great deal of knowledge to share. Meg will tell us about Harriet Ross Tubman, the woman whose image will grace the $20 bill (replacing Andrew Jackson), as well as other women who will appear on other bills in the foreseeable future: Sojourner Truth, Lucretia Mott, Susan B. Anthony, Alice Paul, Elizabeth Cady Stanton, Marian Anderson and Eleanor Roosevelt.
SAVE THE DATE: Saturday, April 8th, 10 AM to 2 PM, at the Unitarian Universalist Church of Berkeley (Kensington). We have the Fireside Room reserved for us. Please bring a dish to share (including serving utensils). We will provide disposable plates, utensils, napkins and beverages. For directions to UUCB, go to: http://uucb.org/connection/directions/ (address is 1 Lawson Road, Kensington, CA 94707, phone is 510-525-0302). Note that this is NOT at the Berkeley Fellowship building.
Please RSVP to me so we’ll know how many to expect on April 8th and tell me what you will bring for the potluck. If you cannot attend on April 8th and are still interested, we may have another gathering later in the year (August, Sept or October) and I’m looking for someone willing to spearhead that. Let me know if that’s you. Feel free to share this message with other UU women who might be interested in learning more about Women & Religion. Finally, if you do not want to be included in further communications from Women & Religion, please reply to me and I will remove you from my list. Thank you!
